Authors: Center for New Media Teaching and Learning, Kevin Griffin

Description: The Tree Respiration module allows students to explore concepts related to respiration, an important physiological process that regulates life on Earth. The interactive graphing feature of the interface allows close examination of the characteristics of tree and forest respiration. Students discover how respiration may respond to global temperature fluctuations and changes in the tree species distribution brought on by human activities. This module also utilizes actual Black Rock Forest temperature data from the forest's Environmental Monitoring Network. Hence, students learn how strongly respiration is regulated by temperature and how temperature responses can vary from one plant species to the next from real world examples.
