Brook Trout Reintroduction and Sustainability in Black Rock Forest

Record Type: Research Project

Project Start Date: Jan. 1, 2010

Principal Investigators: John Brady, Ed McGowan, Matthew Munson, Katherine Pavlis, William Schuster, Allan Wells, Astrika Wilhelm

Description: The brook trout population was eradicated from the four streams within Black Rock Forest several decades ago due to a severe drought. In the last decade, farmed brook trout has been stocked in these streams in an effort to reintroduce the species into the forest. This research analyzed the chemical and physical parameters of the four streams to determine optimal locations for the reintroduction of the brook trout. Furthermore, the current natural population was catalogued in an effort to determine the success of the reintroduction project.
